Vally is mostly converted to agriculture. DNR managed wetland has altered and constructed wetland communities and grass fields. Natural vegetation is limited to small patches along river. Sunny area along back channel behind plot has a Cornus ammomum / Symplocarpus foetidus shrub swamp.;Floodplain forest along a slow meandering river in a wide valley bottom. Along river sycamores form a supercanopy over buckeye. Sycamore is still without leaves at sampling date in May but buckey is fully leafed out. Two weeks prior, bluebells were in full bloom but now its golden ragwort. Undulating/irregular microtopography with hollows and drainage sloughs. On revisit in September there was much increased litter cover (80%) and decreased bare soil (10%) compared to spring visit, indicating that litter is likely to be periodically swept away by floods.
Representativeness
Small patch, about 25 m wide, of floodplain forest with unexpectedly few weeds. Tall sycamore are mostly along the river bank with buckeye becoming dominant back from the river. Sycamore still not leafed out at spring sampling date but cover estimated as
